The Price is Right
The longest running game show in Television History. While most of you know the Bob Barker and Drew Carey CBS daytime version, it’s not the full story. The Price is Right actually began in 1956 as one of the first daytime game shows. Hosted by the legendary Bill Cullen, game play was simply outbidding your opponents on one item, without going over. Later, a nighttime version was added, offering extravagant prizes of all kinds. From luxury cars, live animals, stunning jewelry, even fully furnished houses.

Along with its daytime revival, starting in 1972, a weekly “Price is Right” aired in Syndication throughout the decade. The game play featured all the early pricing games and the dramatic final Showcases. Originally hosted by Dennis James, Bob Barker took over this version as well by 1978. Johnny Olsen and his iconic “Come on Down” is there along with original Beauties Janice Pennington, Dian Parkinson and Holly Halstrom.

This version ended in 1980, but it was far from the end of syndicated “Price is Right”. In 1985, a new weekday version debuted, hosted by another veteran game show host, Tom Kennedy. By this time, newer pricing games had joined the roster such as Plinko, Pick-A-Pair, One Away and Punch a Bunch. All of these games are featured prominently on this version. While it only lasted a season, fans will find a lot of fun sifting through old episodes.

The last syndicated version lasted only from September 1994 to January 1995. Looking quite different from the CBS version we all know and loved, this version included a jazzed up theme song remix and a solo Showcase round. All three of “Price is Right” will be included on Games People Play for your enjoyment.
